El pasado día 15 de noviembre ha tenido lugar en la Biblioteca Central Bidebarrieta de Bilbao la Celebración Oficial del Día de la Química 2018, organizada por el Foro Química y Sociedad junto con el Ayuntamiento de Bilbao y la Asociación Vasca de Empresas Químicas y que ha contado con la participación de autoridades del gobierno regional.

Han participado en la inauguración Cristina Uriarte, Consejera de Educación, Política Lingüística y Cultura del Gobierno Vasco; Xabier Ochandiano, Concejal de Desarrollo Económico, Comercio y Empleo del Ayuntamiento de Bilbao; Ángela Fernández, Presidenta de la Asociación Vasca de Empresas Químicas (AVEQ Kimika); y Carlos Negro, Presidente del Foro Química y Sociedad.

En el transcurso de la celebración se hizo entrega del Premio ANQUE del Año 2018. El Premio ANQUE del Año es un galardón creado por la Asociación Nacional de Químicos e Ingenieros Químicos de España en 2007 destinado a reconocer los méritos en el orden corporativo o profesional de los asociados que se hayan hecho acreedores de ello por su destacada actuación a favor de la Asociación. El Premio ANQUE 2018 ha sido concedido a Helena Herrero, Presidente y Consejera Delegada de HP para España y Portugal.

El objetivo de la celebración del Día de la Química es impulsar la divulgación de la ciencia y la industria químicas y sensibilizar a la sociedad sobre su aportación a la mejora de la calidad de vida, contribuyendo así a su desarrollo. Difundir los avances de la química en relación a la generación de nuevos productos, aplicaciones y tecnologías y su incidencia en la mejora del bienestar social es, por otra parte, uno de los objetivos prioritarios del Foro Química y Sociedad.

“La química, y su industria, juegan un papel esencial para conseguir la gran mayoría de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible que la ONU promulgó para su Agenda 2030”, remarcó Carlos Negro. “Cabe destacar en este sentido que la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas ha proclamado el próximo 2019 como el Año Internacional de la Tabla Periódica de los Elementos Químicos, lo que es una forma de reconocer la función crucial que desempeñan las ciencias fundamentales, y especialmente la química, a la hora de aportar soluciones a muchos de los desafíos que afrontan los Estados Miembros para aplicar la Agenda 2030 para el Desarrollo Sostenible”.

El Foro Química y Sociedad es la plataforma que representa al ámbito académico, científico, empresarial y profesional de la Química en España, a través de entidades vinculadas a la química. Cabe mencionar en este sentido la incorporación del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) al Foro Química y Sociedad como miembro de pleno derecho tras su aprobación el pasado mes de julio. “La formalización de esta vinculación tiene tras de sí una larga trayectoria de colaboración por parte de ambas entidades”, ha remarcado Carlos Negro. “Y esta adhesión viene a sumar esfuerzos para fomentar en la sociedad la cultura científica y promover el conocimiento en el ámbito específico de la química”.

La Consejera de Educación, Política Lingüística y Cultura del Gobierno Vasco, Cristina Uriarte, ha defendido el papel de la ciencia y su extraordinaria importancia en el desarrollo y bienestar social. “La experiencia nos demuestra que quién apuesta por la ciencia, es un país que va bien”, ha comentado Cristina Uriarte, quién ha defendido la necesidad de un apoyo institucional y del apoyo de sector privado. La Consejera de Educación, Política Lingüística y Cultura ha incidido de manera particular en la importancia del acercamiento a jóvenes y escolares. “Es necesario el impulso de las nuevas generaciones, y esto es algo en lo que el gobierno vasco está trabajando, con el Lehendakari a la cabeza”, ha apuntado. Cristina Uriarte se ha referido asimismo a la estrategia STEM de su gobierno para fomentar las vocaciones científico-tecnológicas entre la juventud. “Es importante también proporcionar modelos a las chicas jóvenes, que vean que la ciencia es algo para ellas”, ha apuntado. Cristina Uriarte se ha referido a la apuesta del Gobierno Vasco por la educación y ha incidido asimismo a la Fundación Ikerbasque, “que hace que Euskadi sea ya un referente científico internacional. Nuestra producción científica se ha incrementado en un 50% en los seis últimos años”.
