La IUPAC ha anunciado los nombres propuestos para los elementos 113, 115, 117, y 118; que cuentan ahora con cinco meses de plazo para consulta pública antes de ser aprobados formalmente.
Los elementos pasarán a llamarse nihonium (Nh – 113), por «Nihon», una de las maneras en que los japoneses se refieren su país, donde se descubrió este elemento; moscovium (Mc – 115) y tennessine (Tn – 117), por Moscú y Tennessee, a propuesta de los laboratorios estadounidenses y rusos implicados en su descubrimiento; y por último oganesson (Og – 118) en honor al Prof. Yuri Oganessian, como reconocimiento a su trabajo pionero en la investigación de elementos trasnactínidos.
